A Night At Camp

Even places frequently visited become new and unknown when traveling this way. We never knew just how many options were available in the Zion area. These were taken on our way back through the park prior to driving back to California. We found a road which led to a dirt road that brought us to a small area with 3-4 sites right next to a creek. Kelsey and Elliot went for a walk and I stayed behind to set up “camp” which consists of three chairs, a dog bed, and some wood prep.

Once done I began my hunt for my family and found them sitting next to the creek watching the water. Elliot sees me coming and yells dada and immediately brings me rocks so we can share his favorite pastime of throwing them in the water.

As day slowly turned to night, we headed back towards the ambo for dinner and a movie which Elliot insisted on being Toy Story. Watching the movie slowly turned to watching Elliot trying to catch embers as the fire released them up towards the stars.

Simple days like these may not seem like much. but they are so meaningful. Family and enforcing our family culture is a huge part of why we’re doing this. We’ll be chasing days like these for the foreseeable future... to infinity and beyond.

Funny (unrelated story): When we originally drove through the Zion we stopped at the south entrance and I got a little too close for comfort to their stop sign. The mirrors on the ambo are LARGE and I clipped the edge of the stop sign while passing it making a VERY loud and embarrassing entrance 😂. The ranger was super cool and just laughed at the situation. Fast forward to our return from the north entrance! I approach the stop sign with the memory of the incident fresh in my mind and what do you know?! It’s the same ranger with her hands up jokingly telling me to take it easy as if I was there to destroy another stop sign.
